Stile Sartoriale is the annual event that celebrates Italian bespoke craftsmanship, represented by the Masters of the National Academy of Tailors. The 2021 edition took place from 16 to 18 September, in Rome, with a calendar full of events and meetings.
Le Forbici d'Oro
During its three days, Stile Sartoriale saw the 'Forbici d'Oro' competition, now in its 70th year, take place. New for this edition, a mixed jury composed of great national masters and great international tailors, such as Lorenzo Cifonelli (Cifonelli - France), Dario Carnera (Huntsman - England) and Calvo De Mora (De Mora - Spain).
During the Gala dinner on Saturday 18, after the parade of their dresses, the following winners were announced:
Vladut Mihail Motau won Forbici d'Oro 2021.
27 years old, has been working in Turin for 8 years.
The author of the best technical track was awarded the Gesso d'Oro 2021. He is Antonio Panettieri, 35 years old from Naples.
Damiano Labricciosa, on the other hand, was awarded the Ago d'Oro, for the best workmanship in the competition.
The Exhibition
To celebrate the 70th anniversary of the Forbici d'Oro, an exhibition of historical garments, made by the master Academicians of the past, spanning all seven decades, has been set up. A journey back into the style, taste and technique of the Italian sartorial world. The exhibition was then enriched by garments from historical theatre tailors and from the archives of great stylists. In the near future, the exhibition will be permanently hosted in the Sale dell'Accademia.
The Meetings
On 17 September, the meeting 'The Future in your hands. The enhancement of craftsmanship through digital, sustainability, exports and training'. An opportunity to discuss the future of the Italian sartorial world with institutions. Moderated by journalist Stefano Zurlo, speakers included: Gaetano Aloisio (President of the National Academy of Tailors) Hon. Maria Soave Alemanno (X Commission for Productive Activities - Chamber of Deputies) Sen. Maria Alessandra Gallone (13th Commission for Territory and Environment - Senate of the Republic) Lorenzo Tagliavanti - President of the Chamber of Commerce of Rome Marta Leonori - Lazio Regional Councillor - Commission for Economic Development, Productive Activities Vice-Minister Gilberto Pichetto Fratin (Ministry of Economic Development) Antonio Tajani - former President of the European Parliament and Vice-President of the European People's Party During the proceedings, a letter from Minister Roberto Cingolani (Ecological Transition) on the conference themes was read out.
On 18 September 2021, sartorial training was discussed at Villa Malta. 'The road to success: the school of the National Academy of Tailors' was the theme. The speakers were, moderated by Alfredo de Giglio (Communications Manager of the Academy): Gaetano Aloisio (President of the National Academy of Tailors) Professor Cinzia Capalbio (Lecturer in History of Fashion - La Sapienza University) Massimiliano Maselli (Lazio Region Councillor) Fabio Pietrella (President Fashion Confartigianato) Gian Matteo Mellerio (Loro Piana) Franz Botré (director Arbiter) Ettore Piacenza (President Industrial Union of Biella) Lorenzo Cifonelli Dario Carnera Calvo De Mora.
Gala Night
In the picturesque setting of the Casino dell'Aurora Pallavicini, the final act of Stile Sartoriale 2021 took place. The Senior Masters staged a complete wardrobe on 'The Elegant Man according to the Academy'. Naturally, each male garment was flanked by a female one.
Then it was the turn of the Junior tailors.
Finally, the dresses made for the Forbici d'Oro, by 12 participants in the Forbici d'Oro 2021.
Special Awards
Academy Trophy
“The Academy Trophy is the most important award of the National Academy of Tailors. It is awarded to prominent figures from the business, institutional and entertainment worlds who embody some of the fundamental characteristics of Italian tailoring. This year we have identified three particular prerogatives: elegance, sobriety and consistency. These characteristics are perfectly represented by the life, political and otherwise, of Antonio Tajani, former President of the European Parliament and current Vice President of the European People's Party. For these reasons, we are honoured to present him with the 2021 Academy Trophy ”.
Vita da Forbici d’Oro
Giuseppe Caristo, from Turin, received the Vita da Forbici d'Oro award for having always, with perseverance and dedication, dedicated himself to the art of tailoring. Caristo won the Golden Scissors in 1966, when he was only 26 years old.
